Library & CATV Volunteers Recognized

Sun Prairie Cable Access along with the Sun Prairie Public Library held a VolunteerAppreciation on Friday, April 16 to honor and recognize  individuals who’ve donated their time and talents throughout the year. Executive Director, Pam Steitz of Sun Prairie Cable Access presented awards to four individuals for their exceptional dedication and leadership.

Peter Steitz and Gary Hebl were the recipients of the Sun Prairie Cable Access Television Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service.  Peter Steitz has been a long time volunteer for Sun Prairie Cable Access.  For almost 25 years Peter has assisted staff members with everything from serving as the chairperson on the annual Film Festival Judging committee to being a camera operator for Sun Prairie High School Graduation.  The staff at SPCA-TV appreciates all of Peter's years of service!  Representative Gary Hebl has been a friend of SPCA-TV's for over 30 years!  Gary has served on the Telecommunications Board since the beginning being a strong supporter of all that SPCA-TV stands for!  The past two years Gary has been instrumental in helping PEG access channels at the state level.  This past year Representative Hebl created the Save Our Community TV Bill which was created to restore fundamental support for community television that was eliminated during the 2007 Video Competition Act.  Gary is a true hero for SPCA-TV and for access channels around the state.

The Friend of Access Award was presented to Blake Patton.  Blake was an instrumental part of our SPCA-TV Film Festival for many years.  Since the idea first came about in the year 2001, Blake has acted as Master of Ceremonies as well as being an active member of the judging committee.  We've enjoyed the many years Blake has been a part of this project.

The Sun Prairie Public Library and SPCA-TV jointly presented The Mildred ThompsonAward for Exceptional Service to Chris Mertes.  Chris has been a volunteer for SPCA-TV for over four years as a producer.  Chris and fellow co-host Don Hooser organize the public affairs show titled "Talk of the Town".  This show helps keep the community of Sun Prairie informed with what's happening within city government, our schools, and service groups.  Chris has also moderated Candidate Forums for KSUN for many years!  Thank you Chris, SPCA-TV and the community appreciate all that you do!   Thanks you again to all of our volunteers, without your  dedication and support we would not be where we are today.
