Film Festival 2005

Sun Prairie Cable Access hosted its Fifth Annual Video Festival on August 27th, 2005 with a luau theme! The event, which was held in the Sun Prairie Public Library and Cable Access studios, was created to provide a venue for showcasing local amateur video productions.

And now for the results!  The first place recipients are as follows:  for the category ages 10 and Under, the first place recipient was Erik James for his film "The Mousy Show".  For the category ages 10-12, first place went to Mary Jo Kozol for her film "Jokes".  In the category ages 13-15, first place went to Hannah Bloczynski & Amber Nelson for their film "Liza Mae's Fashion Show".  In the category for ages 18 and over, the first place producer's were Lucie Ferrari & Carol Gobeli for their film "La Course Infernale".  In the Special Category, first place went to Beth Karabin for her film "That One Arcade Game".  The first place selection from each category will be entered in the statewide WAPC Annual Film Festival which is held in the spring of each year during the Wisconsin Association of PEG (public, educational, government) Access Channels Conference.

Certificates of Achievement were presented to the following producers for their outstanding achievement and contribution to the 2005 SPCA-TV Film Festival:  Hope Menzel, Kelsey McConachie, Becky Dekelver, Colton Larson, Mikayla Scott, Mark James, Larry Brinkman and Charles Weiss.

Entries were classified into four different categories based on age, as well as a Special Category.  This category is for a person who has received higher education and/or paid training in the field of video production and editing.  The categories are as follows:  Category 1: Ages 10 and Under, Category 2: Ages 10-12, Category 3: Ages 13-15, Category 4: Over 18 and Category 5: Special Category.  One first place recipient was chosen from each category based on total score.  These overall total scores were calculated from individual scores awarded by the contest judges.

The Video Festival included presentations, a viewing of the submitted videos, an awards ceremony and refreshments.  The master of ceremonies was Blake Patton from WJJO Radio.  Presenters included Blake Patton and Sun Prairie's own Frank Peot, Association of Community Theater.  Pam Steitz, Sun Prairie Cable Access Executive Director, delivered the welcome address and Volunteer Coordinator Karen Markstahler gave some history on the Sun Prairie Cable Access Film Festival, as well as recognized and thanked all the volunteers, staff and participants. We also had a very special treat this year, Jerry Moore provided the entertainment by playing his ukulele!  It was a nice Hawaiian touch!

If  you are interested in viewing the submitted videos they will be aired frequently on KSUN-12 and KIDS-4.  Check the cable access schedule printed in The Star, or on both channels bulletin boards, and on our online schedule for future air times.

If you missed it this year, start working on your own video production and watch for the 6th Annual Sun Prairie Cable Access Film Festival coming next summer!
