Sun Prairie Cable Access hosted its Seventh Annual Film Festival on August 25th.  The event, which was held in the Sun Prairie Public Library Community Room and Cable Access studios, was created to provide a venue for showcasing local amateur video productions.

And now for the results!  The first place recipients are as follows: For the 9 year old category the first place recipient was Sam Yanke for his video "Are You Smarter than a Preschooler".  The first place for the 10 year old category went to Mark Sommer for his video "How Come the Empire Really Lost the War".  For the 11 year old category the first place producer was Leighla Baney for her video "Cheap Eats".  For the 12 year old category the first place recipient was Ben Yanke for his film "Sam’s Cooking Show".   In the category for ages 13-15, first place went to Lauren Sommer, Erica Larsen & Lindsey Salo for their video "How to be a Pirate".  And in the Over 18 Category, the first place producer was Mark James for his film "The Haunted Pumpkin Patch".  The first place selection from each category will be entered in the statewide WAPC Annual Film Festival that is held in the spring of each year during the Wisconsin Association of PEG (public, educational, government) Access Channels Conference.

Certificates of Achievement were presented to the following producers for their outstanding achievement and contribution to the 2007 SPCA-TV Film Festival:  Lexi Bernard, Marena Wheatley, Gefjon Garat, Chad Castleberg, Kathy Ma, Calvin Berg, Jocelyn Kroetz-Jones, Tony Kruger and Ryan Berman.

The Film Festival included presentations, a viewing of the submitted videos, an awards ceremony and refreshments.  The master of ceremonies was WJJO disc jockey Blake Patton.  Blake also served as a presenter along with Volunteer Coordinator Karen Markstahler.  Pam Steitz, Sun Prairie Cable Access Executive Director, delivered the welcome address and concluding remarks.

The videos will be aired frequently on KSUN-12 and KIDS-4.  Check the cable access schedule printed in The Star, on both channels bulletin boards, and on our website schedule link for future airing times.

If you missed it this year, start working on your own video productions and watch for the 8th Annual Sun Prairie Cable Access Film Festival coming next summer!
