SPCA-TV Film Festival 2006

Sun Prairie Cable Access hosted its Sixth Annual Video Festival on August 26th, 2006 with a 50's theme! The event, which was held in the Sun Prairie Public Library and Cable Access studios, was created to provide a venue for showcasing local amateur video productions.

And now for the results!  The first place recipients are as follows:  for the category ages 10 and Under, the first place recipient was Gefjon Garat for her film "Clean Up that Mess".  For the category ages 11-12, first place went to Jessika Gerg for her film "Jessi".  In the category ages 13-15, first place went to Becky Dekelver for her film "Star Wars - Episode XII The Lava Chase".  In the category for ages 18 and over, the first place producer was Mark James for his film "Dangertech Theater".  In the Special Category, first place went to Mark Wilcox for his film "A Day in the Life of EMS".  The first place selection from each category will be entered in the statewide WAPC Annual Film Festival which is held in the spring of each year during the Wisconsin Association of PEG (public, educational, government) Access Channels Conference.

Certificates of Achievement were presented to the following producers for their outstanding achievement and contribution to the 2006 SPCA-TV Film Festival:  Erik James, Leighla Baney, Ariane Boissonnas, Hope Menzel, Luke Hartman, Lauren Sommer, Erica Larsen, Lindsey Salo, Mary Jo Kozol, Margery Lake, Colton Larsen, Mikayla Scott, Elliot Cleveland, Noah Voss, Marcia Berman, Ed Pagelow, Larry Brinkman and Travis Kaney.

Entries were classified into four different categories based on age, as well as a Special Category.  This category is for a person who has received higher education and/or paid training in the field of video production and editing.  The categories are as follows:  Category 1: Ages 10 and Under, Category 2: Ages 11-12, Category 3: Ages 13-15, Category 4: Over 18 and Category 5: Special Category.  One first place recipient was chosen from each category based on total score.  These overall total scores were calculated from individual scores awarded by the contest judges.

The Video Festival included presentations, a viewing of the submitted videos, an awards ceremony and refreshments.  The masters of ceremonies were Blake Patton from WJJO Radio and Dan Presser from TweeDee Productions.  Other presenters included Sun Prairie's own Frank Peot, Association of Community Theater.  Pam Steitz, Sun Prairie Cable Access Executive Director, delivered the welcome address and Volunteer Coordinator Karen Markstahler gave some history on the Sun Prairie Cable Access Film Festival, as well as recognized and thanked all the volunteers, staff and participants.

If  you are interested in viewing the submitted videos they will be aired frequently on KSUN-12 and KIDS-4.  Check the cable access schedule printed in The Star, or on both channels bulletin boards, and on our online schedule for future air times.

If you missed it this year, start working on your own video production and watch for the 7th Annual Sun Prairie Cable Access Film Festival coming next summer!
